TPACK Method & SAMR Model (Updated + Simply Explained!) (MindMeister)

Mind maps of the TPACK Method and the SAMR Model:

TPACK Method:

TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) is a framework that is important to know so that we can teach our lessons more effectively with using technology. It is a combination of what teachers know, how they teach and how technology is used.

To look at the main aspects of TPACK Method:

Content Knowledge: Teacher's knowledge of the lesson's subject. It includes facts, concepts and theories. Depending on the grade level and student's age, the CK teacher will use in a class may differ.

Pedagogical Knowledge: It is how the teacher uses the knowledge they have through practices and processes they use in the classroom. It includes instructional strategies, teaching methods and assessments.

Technological Knowledge: Teacher's knowledge of how to use technology, not just the devices but to make technology a part of your students' learning process. It includes the quality of content that students access through apps, websites and games.

SAMR Model:

SAMR is another model that is important to know by teachers so that they can have an idea of how to combine technology with their materials in hand in their classrooms. "Its goal is to transform learning experiences with technology to enhance learning." (Analisa McMillan, SAMR Overview and Examples)

To look at the main aspects of SAMR Model:

Substitution: A simple and traditional way of using technology. Using PowerPoint or Microsoft Word rather than having a hard-copy worksheet can be given as an example of substitution.

Augmentation: Technology is still used in a traditional way but with functional improvement to increase students' productivity. It is used continuously and not in a single activity.

Modification: The stage where it is no longer Enhancement, and is now known as Transformation. You can redesign, change, add/take out anything in your lessons using technology.

Redefinition: Redefining the lessons and transforming your students' experiences with technology. It allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously inconceivable.
